When we first began talking about Capture Arnold, we spent a lot of time exploring how we might build our own online archive for Arnold’s photos. But as we looked into the costs, ongoing maintenance, and storage needed for such a project, we also faced a bigger question: how could we properly curate something of this scale?

That’s when we discovered the Inspire Picture Archive a brilliant initiative featuring over 40,000 historical images of Nottinghamshire. The collection showcases everything from bygone shops and favourite local landmarks to historic events and much-loved community spaces.

Inspire: Culture, Learning and Libraries is a charitable community benefit society that delivers cultural and learning services across Nottinghamshire. To be clear, we’re not affiliated with Inspire though we’ve had some incredibly helpful conversations with their team (thank you, Inspire!) For us, it’s about contributing to this fantastic community resource and encouraging as many people as possible to share photos that celebrate Arnold’s people, places, and spirit.

The Inspire Picture Archive has its own submission guidelines (you’ll find a link further down this page). From our side, we’d love to see photos that capture:

  • The people who make Arnold special

  • The events that bring us together

  • The buildings and architecture that shape our town

If, like us, you’ve taken photos of Arnold that you’re proud of and want to share them with a wider audience, this is your chance to do just that.
